Ma Cha School Project

The Ma Cha School project was a grassroots initiative born out of a desire to support the Hmong community in the remote highlands of Sapa, Vietnam. Seeing firsthand the lack of proper educational facilities for local children, we worked alongside the village to build a small school that would provide a safe and inspiring learning environment. The project required navigating challenging terrain, sourcing materials locally, and ensuring that the school reflected the needs and traditions of the community. It was a collective effort, with travelers, local artisans, and volunteers coming together while they stayed in my hotel Sapa Rooms boutique hotel, to create something truly meaningful. More than just a building, Ma Cha School became a place of opportunity—a space where children could access education without having to walk hours each day and where teachers could engage students in a setting that fostered growth and curiosity. The project highlighted the power of community-driven change and the impact that thoughtful, sustainable development can have on future generations.
